Wakatipu dream for Californian couple
For Californians Sue Bayley and Dr Gary Richwald, their property on the Glenorchy Road offers the ideal balance of tranquillity and vibrancy. The views across Lake Wakatipu provide an expanse of peace that ex-pat Sue loves. Meanwhile down the road, Queenstown delivers the cosmopolitan feel the couple are used to back home in Venice, LA. The couple engaged Southern Landmarx to implement their plan. For future builds, she would happily call on Joe’s skills as a landscape architect to take the project from concept to implementation.
“Under Joe’s management it was very apparent they were a highly capable team, very engaging, happy to listen to our suggestions around the plan and to suggest any alterations,” says Sue. She was enthusiastic about the use of native specimens on the site, in conjunction with flowering deciduous trees, with the result a pleasing blend of texture and colour across different seasons.
The Bob’s Cove site provided its challenges, with natural springs which involved extensive drainage work which Joe quickly put in place. Sue describes the commission with Southern Landmarx as an “on-going mutual and co-operative partnership”, one that continued after the project was complete with Joe tending to maintenance in the couple’s absence.
“Joe brings a multi-disciplinary approach to design, creation and implementation that ensures the project runs just as anticipated,” says Sue.
